Just got my system in the mail and it is indeed a v370, so I'll probably be placing an order for the Mega Pack sometime soon.
I've only spent a little bit of time with it, but even as is, I like the whole package, seems to be a lot of complaining over something that is pretty alright.

Just came here from the neo-geo.com board since it seems if you don't own a real AES or MVS, you obviously know nothing. Having owned a MVS machine in the past, I can say that I love the Neo Geo X. While not quite as good, I think it has potential and is worth the price. IMHO, the update was a notable improvement for both HDMI video and sound, honestly more than I expected. Add a scanline option to this thing and I think they will have it. I don't know....while I think that it should be possible to emulate hardware this old properly, I use the PC vs Console argument still. I'd hope that a piece of hardware that can still run upwards of $500-$600 with games varying in the hundreds each, would be somewhat better than what I paid much less for. ($1000 PC should perform better than $300 Xbox 360/PS3) Still, anyone on the fence about the update can feel safe that it's actually an improvement. My only real issue is having to pay for upgrades that should be free. Still, I'm supporting Tommo here. Take my money.

Welcome aboard, pohsibsk! I just tested Ninja Masters with my 500. Worked fine (whew!). I've completely forgotten about it, now that I have The Last Blade .

Question...I have a 337 and I just tried to update my system...I plug the USB plug into the slot while holding start. It stars blinking blue really fast but the system never turns on. It doesn't flash neo geo on the screen twice and doesn't show an update is in process. However the blue led light starts flashing blue red blue red etc. is this the problem everyone talks about?

I wouldn't necessarily give up on neo-geo.com, there is still a lot of good old threads and gameplay resources there, people love to rag on everyone for anything (I know I do). Just enjoy what you enjoy, I think if you look around you'll see just as many old timers enjoying the NGX as the vocal ones trashing it. I owned a 4 slot cab for 5 years and almost 30 kits (waaaay too many). Having a couple thousand dollars of games sitting around just wasn't my thing. Basically, I agree with you, this thing is good, not great, but close and more importantly cheap. I understand if the early adopters are a bit peeved at the quick price drop and even at 200 I might have been a little more disappointed, but I got the system, and an extra stick for 120 shipped and am more than happy at that price.

Is there any way to get the 500 firmware to install on a 337 Unit? I find it hard to believe that Tommo would actively destroy customer's units because a tiny percentage of them may or may not be hacking their devices.

I got mine back on monday from Tommo. I don't have the balls to open it up and see if it is still a 337 that was returned to me. However, it works very well now.

I would really love to know if they are inspecting the 337 units at all, or just tossing them in a bin and sending out different ones. -I ask because, well frankly I have a bricked unit that I pulled the SD card out of, and since I am king of epic fail on NGX, I would like to know if getting a working unit from Tommo is still even a possibility

Worth a try, I doubt they'll open them up. Some people have successfully updated 337 units I'm hearing so it really dosen't effect all 337s.

I know a person who used to work in warranty support for cel phones. They opened them up. I'm sure with some glue and another scandisc 2GB card (of which I have) I can fake an unopened unit to the casual observer. But anyone with a toolbox who gives half a Sh** about their job? They're gonna fail me.

I thought that the 500 update failing on the 337 didn't brick the unit. I heard that the 337 units still worked fine after a failed 500 update. . . is this not true?

Well, I damaged the SD card trying to remove it without damaging the socket. Without the Original SD card, it won't boot, right? That, and I may have been loading the wrong image into the wrong area, no? That's surely got to be bad for the system.
