I thought that were true too, but if you monitor the neo geo forums, you'll see that some 370s are also F-ing up as well! What a big mess!

I don't really want to send mine back, but I also want to have it work! I wonder if I should just keep trying the firmware upgrade until it works. hahaha

[http://home.educities.edu.tw/fushiyun2000/gameconsole_snk_neogeox_hack_improve_game_resolution.htm] You will get an HDMI output that rivals final burn running on a modded PS3 through HDMI output... no joke. You also get a 1:1 pixel ratio display setting replacing the default widescreen setting on the handheld. One thing I have noticed owning both a 337 and a 370 unit is that the picture quality is worse on the 370 from the start without any mods... if anyone owns a 337 unit your better off keeping it as is (or do the above mod) than bricking it and sending it in to Tommo, who will not let anyone update a 337 due to the fact that ppl could EASLILY remove the micro SD card after an update and look at the contents- allowing people to see what folder names have been changed or what exactly is stopping the SD card hacks. HDMI 1:1 ratio on handheld Whether ppl are having trouble updating 337 or 370 the fact remains that not a single person has been able to update a 337. Keep the 337s and watch how much they will be worth later on... these are now rare SNK variants. Don't send them back... worthless Tommo spent all this time working ONLY on the security for these to stop the SD card hacks, they don't care about any other issue. It took consumers efforts to fix the video out and Tommo still cannot match what Ack has done. If anyone has bricked their unit updating to the garbage 500 FW then they have nothing to lose by running the above mod on a clean 4 GB micro SD (this is how I did mine, you also get to use a faster card internally meaning that the emulator actually loads roms faster) instead of sending their 337 back to Tommo.

I will post a tutorial on how to do this (for 337 only! 370 units will brick) tomorrow for those who don't want to send their units back... like I said, the hardest part is removing the glued in micro SD, once you have that out its actually really simple. (download the generic dingoo flasher and modified image, install a new 4 GB SD micro into internal socket, flash)

PS once this mod is done, I guess you lose the use of all existing roms on the unit and on sd cards?

PS once this mod is done, I guess you lose the use of all existing roms on the unit and on sd cards? Even though the modified image has no ROMs on it I got all the built-in ROMs back on the internal card with unibios... this is a bit trickier, but doable. It requires either a linux system or software that can emulate the linux file browser on a PC... you just take the micro SD out of the NGX's internal socket, plug it into the PC and dump the roms into a specified folder (with the correct names etc), then reinsert it back into the NGX. I'll explain the whole process FULLY tomorrow

From Facebook:
NEOGEO X Update on v337 Firmware and the Game Packs Updates: The issue with firmware v337 and the Game Packs only affects about 5% of systems purchased. We discovered this issue late last week when users first reported it. We have been working all weekend on the best solution and hope to present it early this week. Here’s a few things we do know:
1. The overwhelming NGX systems in distribution are version v370 and are not affected. 2. Any users required to send software or hardware back to complete their update (regardless of version number) will NOT be charged for any shipping. We will work with any users who has already sent a unit to us at their expense to correct the situation. 3. We want to get a 100% workable solution to you as quickly as possible and we will. 4. Before contacting customer service please review the video we posted on the firmware update process –many users who thought the update was not working, completed the update after reviewing the update steps in the video. 5. Please do not ask for an RMA via Facebook. Contact Customer service and they will obtain the necessary information we need to help you. 6. This issues applies to owners of both the NGX Handheld System and the Game Packs only. Please contact Customer Service if you only own the NGX Handheld System and have other issues.

heres a reply from support -
"We apologize but we do not current provide warranty service outside the US and Canada."
so they'll have to refund Amazon the returns.
And they claim sound is improved with the fw upgrade. Well well, its either upgrade and brick or back to Amazon!

Can anyone with the update test Ninja Masters? I'm reading on another forum NM won't work with the 500 update?

Just got mine in the post, done the upgrade and it works fine. There is a sub note in the manual which says ninja master's won't work wih the new firmware though. This sucks. But my NM is still sealed anyway.

To confirm - I'm saying I haven't bricked my system. I haven't tried Ninja Master's.
