I am having exactly the same issue - am using the NGX tools which arrived today.
One thing I note is that on the youtube guide it states that the update should take 8 - 15 minutes to put the firmware onto the SD card. However mine uploads in about 30 seconds - 1 minute (the percentage bar fills up and at the end of the process it states update successful).
I then unplug, switch to X, connect to the power unit and then plug into my NGX whilst holding down start. Once the blue light starts to flash rapidly I let go of start.
I am using a 8GB scandisk and formatting to FAT32 before I start.
I will try with another SD card to see if it works but just wondering whether there is anything odd about the speed of the firmware uploading onto the SD card?

The rocket cable might not be properly seated if it's not doing the update on the NGX. As for the speed...the file should be like 800Mb so it should take a good minute to load it on the card but if you have a high speed like a class 10 sd card then it will take much less time.

Try a smaller micro SD (the smaller the better - 1GB are the best for this).

Firstly thank you for taking time to reply to my post.
I'll have a go with the smaller card and see if that makes a difference. I have already upgraded to 500a previously so am really hoping this will work.
It took me about 1 minute to upload to my class 10 so glad this seems in line.
The odd thing is that the sd card can still be reformated and reused so it has not been corrupted.
I'll let you know once I have bought the new card.
Thank you again.

So my 1gb card arrived. Still no joy using the NGX tools.
So then I tried updating with the firmware and the old rocket cable - yes, succes!
With Neogeo ROMs in zip file, if it is unzipped it creates several bin files. So is it simply a case of changing the ending of the zip file to AES or MVS and then sticking onto the magic card?

Use convert-x that should help go from zip files or download pre converted files.

Do I just search for convert-x in google? It seems to come up with optios for converting DVD?
I tried FBA Cache but couldn't get it working - keeps saying "the system could not find the path specified". I have the neogeo.zip file.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the replies guys.
So I got FBA cache to work - I had to save it directly in my C drive (with no sub folders). I got hold of the ROM pack but some of them do not work and I am still after
Aero/Sonic Wings 1& 2 (works but no sound). Rage ofthe Dragons SVC SS5 special
MVC SF Alpha 3
I have tried 1 or 2 other sites but the ROMs there also did not work.
Is it just a case of tauling through different sites until you find one with a working ROM? Did others have difficulties with the above?
Thanks for the support - hopefully the Q & Ais also helping other noobies.

Some roms have issues due to the fact that it's not perfect emulation but yes finding a good Rom will require you to go to site to site till you find one that works or ask someone for a known good Rom set.

Look for ROMs that are meant for the final burn emulator (as they are different than the MAME ROMs).

Thanks OMG. I managed to locate a working version of SVC which was definitely my most saught after and definitely lives up to my expectation.
I also haveto agree with you that the NGX tools magic card feels a little flimsy - know doubt when it finally does break I'll becoming to you for a pro card.
Does anyone know what the Capcom emulator is in terms of locating compatible ROMs?

The Capcom emu is based off of FBA (Final Burn Alpha) as well (FBA ran Neo, CPS & Sega arcade games).
