^^^This. I would definitely need assurance that you could play region-free.

So, I was looking up more of these retro consoles and I learned that Retro-Bit (makers of the Retro Duo) is releasing a new console called the "Super Retro Trio", probably around the same time the Retron 5 will be out. It will play NES, SNES, and Genesis games, plus GBA games with an adapter. I like how all the controller ports are in front of the console. Here's a picture: Any idea if this plays PAL and NTSC games like the retron 5? I believe so. It actually has a region switch between the Genesis controller ports if you look closely at the picture.

Ooh,the same company also do a portable NES/SNES Player too:http://www.innexinc.com/product-detail.php?prod_id=RB-RDP-6041&type=12&page_num=1 I've emailed to see if both play PAL games as well as NTSC and I'll see if I get a reply.the trio could be a decent alternative to the retron 5 if it plays both regions.

Yeah, it's from Retro-Bit. They made both the Retro Duo console and handheld.

I wish one of these companies could put out a system that could play Turbo Grafx/PC Engine games. I used to have a PC Engine Duo-R and loved it, until it went kapoot. There are so many great titles to play. Anyway, both these systems look pretty cool. I own a Nes, Snes and Genesis, so the ease of just having a do it all system is appealing....if the price is nice

The Retron 3 plays NES, SNES, and Genesis games. It was released a few years ago and you can get it for around $45 or so nowadays. What I don't like about it is that the NES and Genesis controller ports are on its sides which may be a problem when you have limited space and you want to use wired controllers. It also looks a bit weird, at least I think it does. haha. Here's a picture:

Yeah, all the controller ports on the Retron 5 seem to be on its sides. I don't know why they went with that kind of design. I don't really know any other consoles with controller ports on their sides, aside from the Retron consoles made by Hyperkin.

I'm waiting for a Retron 5. I don't think ports on the sides are a bad thing, most old controllers have nice long cords, anyway. Except the Genesis/Megadrive, those weren't very long.

The idea behind these combo systems is so cool. I've never owned one, unless you count the PS2 (with PS1 compatibility). I guess we'll see how the Retron 5 will do performance-wise. I'm leaning towards getting a Retro Duo though since it'll probably be cheaper and I just want NES/SNES compatibility anyway. Plus it looks like it'll fit just right in my small game space. hehe.

Have to say I'm quite excited by the possibility of playing Jap Famicom games, something I've not ever used before. Looks like there are a fair few Jap only games that never made it to the NES.

I actually had a Famicom back in the day. I gave it away when I got my SNES though. Anyway, I remember playing games called "TwinBee" and "Battle City" with my Famicom. I don't think those were released in the US. I also had 2 "Street Fighter II" games which I didn't even know were pirates back then. haha.

Yeah I'm well keen to grab a copy of some of the Twinbee games - my bro had Pop'N'Twinbee on the Super Famicom years ago, one of the most beautiful looking games ever and loads of fun!

Since I've been posting pictures of these retro consoles, I might as well post a picture of the Retro Duo itself:
