Hmmm, I'm not sure about the best music, but I do find the music in Stage 1 of Magician Lord quite memorable.

Fatal Fury - Big Bear's Stage is an epic track.
also the intro to KOF '96 is wicked cool.
Until KOF 97-98 is released and Orochi Yashio's music graces our ears.

Tough call. All the KOF's from 94-2000 have outstanding music. Samurai Shodown II's soundtrack is majestic as is The Last Blade. Real Bout Special is also an awesome soundtrack.
If I had to go with one my pick would be KOF '99 as my absolute favorite. I love Every song on the soundtrack, especially "KD-0079".

Agreed, the old school KoF games have knockout soundtracks! Though I have a soft spot for some tracks in KoF '03. I'm also very partial to the soundtracks in all 3 Art of Fighting games. The soundtracks for Magician Lord and Mutation Nation also rock the hell out of everything.

Magician Lord's music is indeed amazing! Atmosphere of the game is top notch.
