I decided to get a Retron 5 for me and my lad. I waited this out as there had been so called death grip problems and pin snapping on cart slots. You would think this would be fixed 2 years on. Im in the UK and here goes. 2 hours after using the unit 2 pins ripped out from the Nes cart slot, but the game still works. Other slots feel quite loose, but overall its a mint machine. Anyone else had same issues with the death grip scenario hyperkin.com/Retron5/

I never got one, but am interested in your thoughts in terms of quality of emulation (similar to NGX)? What are the advantages vs NGX?

The machine is fantastic Rob. The build quality is rough though, Scratched straight out of the box. I expected more, like protective peel film on the console and pads etc. The death grip is only present on the NES slot.
I have got all the roms patched and works great from SD card. Only downside is, its not looking to good on my HDMI TV, but i have ordered a HDMI-AV converter for my CRT TV.
I highly recommend the Retron 5, just be careful with the cart removal.
The Neogeo x based on Neogeo only is a much better option, but for as far as the other emulators go. The retron 5 kicks ass on the Jailbreak big time for a better experience. Wireless controllers work well.
Get one.

I didn't realise you could play ROMs from the SD card? I thought you could only use original carts and RIP these to the memory. Is the patch widely available?
Being able to play ROMs from the SD card is a bit of a game changer. Nice also to be able to use original controllers.

Legacy,
I enjoyed the review - very thorough! I was impressed to see virtua racing worked.
Have you tried any of the 'other' emulators via the jailbreak doing the rounds on the internet (PSX, PCE)? Given the android operating system I guess in theory you could have MAME running (which would be nice alongside the console compatability).
I am kind of surprised they did not include a neogeo MVS slot in there - that would have been a game changer for alot of people. Is a NG emulator available.
Also good to see you have the Striker game on the SNES. My mate used to have that and I remember playing it a few times when I visited him.
Sadly I can't buy one now as I recently shelled out for Pulstar, Last Resort and Magician Lord on my NGCD - all benefit from having a CD sound track! I better get saving.
