I bought a Neo CD console on ebay a few months ago and it came with a bunch of games, a lot of which are burned games.. Now, while I do not advocate the pirating and copying of games, this is just what the system came with..
My question is this.. And I don't want opinions, I would like facts. Some of the games give me disc read errors after they have loaded a bunch of times. Others do not. Is it safe using burned games with this system? Do they wear out or ruin the laser? I would like to know, because if they do, I'm not going to use the burned game copies that came with this thing. I want to preserve this system for as long as I can.

I have every game burned. I get those same errors with burned games. Some people say those errors only show up with cheap discs or games that were burned on too high of a speed. I dunno for sure. The consensus seems to be that because the laser has to work harder to read a disc it at some point ultimately won't read that it shortens the life of the laser. So I used my copies as a trial to decide which games to buy.

I have a NGCD and have always steered clear of burned/copy CDs due to the speculation that it could shorten the laser life span.
