Once you jailbreak, you won't be able to use the official game cards. You -can- use them to roll back to an unjailbroken v500 firmware at any time, though! But, once you've jailbroken, you can just re-get your savegames on your ultracard, since you can use all the benefits of the v500 firmware (like saving your game) on all the Neo games, including the roms on that card.

I ordered a PS3 8 button Exar NeoGeo stick from Japan on Ebay. It should arrive in about two to three weeks. I will let you all know if the extra buttons work or not. I got the PS3 8 button Exar NeoGeo stick in the mail today. The extra buttons work!!!!! L1 was medium kick and R2 was strong kick in Street Fighter. I am not quite used to that layout yet, as it is a bit funky. For me, the NGX is much more fun played through the console with the controllers, and now I can play the Capcom games that need those extra buttons.

Nice one - that is great news.
I guess is must be possible to mod the joystick and move the physical button layout around.
That said in time you'll probably get used to the layout - it never takes as long as you think.

I also meant to ask have you tried opening up both sticks? I would be really interested to see a comparison of the guts of each stick as it may be easier then anyone realises to 'add in' the missing buttons onto theNeo Geo X controller.

Right now I am really swamped with work and probably won't be able to get to opening up both sticks in awhile, but when I get a break I will try to squeeze it in. I am not much good with electronics and wasn't planning on opening them up, but for the sake of this board will try to find time.
Speaking of opening up controllers: I have an NGX stick where the A button kind of sticks and is not very responsive. If I press it rapidly it responds about 1/2 of the time, which makes it not practical for many games. Anyone seen this before and know if this would be easy to fix?

I have, it could mean one of two things. 1: Your button got some crud in it, clean it out, that should clear the connection. 2: Your button is no longer making good connection, it might need to be either re-attached, or resoldered to the board. Honestly, I'd just slap some better buttons in there, it'd be one of the best things you can do. You'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes for gameplay, you really would.

Fortunately, I have another NGX controller with buttons that really work well, so I know what you mean about it making a big difference when the buttons are responsive!
