After having read and watched a lot of Neo Geo X (NGX) reviews, I've noticed that there are certain complaints about it that aren't exactly fair. I just thought I'd give my opinion on these complaints and how they really aren't too big of a deal. Again, this is just my opinion, so feel free to agree or disagree.
Common complaint #1- The Neo Geo X is expensive.
The NGX launched at $199.99 and it came with the NGX handheld, 1 USB arcade stick, 1 replica AES docking station (for charging and connecting to a TV), AV/HDMI cables, and a bonus Ninja Masters game card. If you ask me, you're getting a lot for what you pay for. Not to mention, 20 official Neo Geo games are built into the system. Also, you can get the NGX for less than the original price nowadays.
Common complaint #2- The Neo Geo X uses widescreen when the games originally played at 4:3.
This is one of the complaints that somewhat baffles me. Anyone can easily change the screen's aspect ratio with a simple press of a button. The fact that you are able to change between widescreen and 4:3 aspect ratios is a nice option in my opinion. Though I reckon most gamers prefer to play in 4:3, some actually prefer widescreen.
Common complaint #3- There's no save function.
This one is more understandable since it's actually true, at least when the NGX first launched. The Mega Pack fixes this problem with the new firmware update that allows players to save. Personally, I've never even used the save function since I like having that arcade feel of having limited credits.
Common complaint #4- The Neo Geo X has bad emulation.
I think this one's a bit of an exaggeration. While it's not 100% accurate, it runs the games well and the picture/sound is quite good for the most part. The only real complaint here is the screen tearing when playing on a TV which I don't think makes it "bad emulation". It's easily ignorable when you're having fun playing a game.
Common complaint #5- The docking station and arcade stick have cheap build quality.
First off, the docking station isn't a console. Some people seem to think it is. It's purpose is for charging the handheld and connecting it to a TV. For those purposes, it's built quite well and does the job. The fact that it looks like an AES makes it even better.
Second, the arcade stick may not be as good as a high-end stick or maybe the original Neo Geo stick, but it still works quite well and looks very much like the original. The arcade stick is the main way I play my NGX and I've never had any problems with it.

No.5 The Neo Geo X Arcade stick is rubbish: Not true, pretty much the same as the original NGH. Not as good as say a decent hori stick, but neither is the original.
No.6 The Docking station feels cheap and flimsy. Not true IMO, of course it's subjective, compared to a PS3 or XBOX then yes, compared to an original megadrive or snes, then no.

I agree that the docking station isn't cheap. It's a charging station, not the actual console. For that, it does its job and looks really nice. I like the arcade stick too. Maybe it's not as good as the original (though I really can't compare since I've never had the original), but I would say it's at least a good copy of it and like the docking station, looks really good as well.

At this moment in time i am playing king of the fighters 2005 on my neogeo x hacked SD card. It plays great, no joystick lag, i can do all the moves. Also on a CRT TV output is great.
On a side note, you would think SNKP would know they could never stop piracy, but as a business, rather than get scared because people like me have all the roms on my neo x hacked SD card. They should have thought more about the business side and the money they could make on making new mega packs and getting all the games out official.
I cannot understand where SNKP's minds are at in terms of making money.
Lets hope the new Ceo, who has done prison time, pulls his finger out of his ass and gets the ball rolling. with tommo. I hope he reads this thread and thinks yeah kiss it.
Business is business guys.
SNKP need to grow some, and sort it out. Thats why they have failed over the years.
They need to listen to folk, its 2013.
The current tearing issues would have been ironed out in future releases.

Really the only valid complaints left are input lag on some HDTVs, which I don't use anyway and screen tearing, which I hardly notice when I'm having fun.
And yes input lag is still there on HDTVs after the update.
On a side note I wonder how the X looks on a 4K TV? Anyone care to drag their X to Best Buy and check it out?

I never really noticed the input lag much and it hasn't really bothered me. I guess it's more noticeable to people who have played the original Neo Geo.
That Youtube video with the Framemeister is quite interesting. I've never heard of that device before. I noticed the guy used a NGX that wasn't updated yet, so I reckon it'll probably look even better with the v500 update.

I added a #5 to my original post. It's the stuff that superdanx mentioned. I just combined both as they are quite similar.

This is a really good thread - I reckon half the people complaining have i) never owned an original aes and ii) have not invested much time into the NGX. In terms of fun per hour this easily beats my xbox.
It is sad that no further mega packs will be released as this would certainly have given a nicer feel given the packaging than a collection of ROMS.

There's some people who complain about the NGX that actually have an AES. They try to compare the two, which is somewhat unfair since the NGX is a handheld that runs on emulation while the AES is an expensive piece of hardware that runs the actual arcade games.
I agree that it's sad that there won't be any more Mega Packs or updates, though I'm still hoping that someday I'll be able to at least use a modded SD card on a v500.

Agreed - the neo geo AES equivalent of the NGX wouldrun into the thousands of pounds, clearly something had to give and, even as a NGX a part of me still yearns for a real neo geo.Who knows, maybe one day, but for now the NGX offers an affordable delve into the world of Neo Geo.
Looking back the NGX should have been an awesome opportunity for SNK to enhance brand value across neo geo, snk and their key franchises. As it was they took that gun and well and truly shot themslevs in foot and turned this into an exercise of goodwill destruction.
A row of mega game packs would have looked great on the bookshelf!

Also, we (NGX owners) were somehow cheated out of possibly more firmware updates. The Mega Pack showed that the NGX can be enhanced and improved. I always say that my main gripe with the NGX is the screen tearing when playing on TV. I think that could've possibly been fixed with another update or two. Oh well, we can only think what could've been.

Personally I find I rarely notice the screen tearing, but that could be becuase I mainly play 1 on 1 fighting games and metal gear. If I play the mega drive or snes then it becomes more noticeable.
Yes, further updates would definitely have been nice - I guess this is still possible from the homebrew community but unlikely given the small userbase. Were unit sales for the NGX ever released?

I've never seen sales figures for the NGX. It's probably not too impressive as SNK pulled the plug on the NGX less than a year from its launch. They never explained that either. SNK just announced they terminated the license and that was that.
