If it is a PR stunt, it's still making SNK look bad. I guess that doesn't matter as long as it helps with sales. C'mon, SNK have always been the bad boys of gaming. Remember this company has been putting out their own bootleg shit for years (they were selling MVS bootlegs out the back door and claiming it as a loss for the company). That was the original reason that the slot machine company that used to own SNK quickly sold it's IPs to the former head. No Japanese gambling company can be involved with organized crime in any way.

Hmm. Interesting that someone is actually speaking about it now. Even though it kinda reiterates what's already known. Still, though. I wonder if it's gonna get anywhere near solved. Either way, I doubt we'll ever see a Mega Pack vol. 2

Wow. Nice one Tommo. Looks like I may have to roll back my jail break and get ready for more mega packs.

This is indeed an interesting development. I wonder what the real story behind all of this is. I would love to see more megapacks and accessories for the X, so I hope somewhere in all of this they can see their way towards reaching an agreement. It all sounds very confrontational at the moment though.

It would be nice if things do get settled. It's not looking too good though. I just wish SNK would at least explain the reason for the license termination. It seems like we'll never know.

What a bunch of jive assery. But really, Tommo could have done a better job with this product. They have had serious quality control issues from the start and haven't shown much improvement. The Neogeo X looks nice in its design but goes way downhill as soon as you play it and hold its controllers. I regret the purchase a little more each day and still get agitated over the arduous process of going through Tommo's customer service for a 500a firmware fix. I guess this means there will be no screen tearing fix in the future either. A BIG disappointment. Tommo have a contract with SNK-Playmore until 2016 and unless they want to spend a fortune in court and legal battles which they will likely lose, and probably can't afford due to previous bankruptcy Tommo can keep on distributing the system, it strikes me as a publicity stunt, The PS4 and X-Box One are out now, so how do they compete? Or sell this far less powerful and out-dated system? other than to the hardcore retro market and the fact it is cheaper? "Answer" : Drama and making it look rare and soon to be unattainable, "Genius move by Tommo and SNK" I could be way off with what I've said above, but it is just my theory, and absolute marketing genius by them quite frankly, I might be wrong but I doubt it.

Don't you think that would make the NGX sell less though? Sure, a collector would want it, but most casual gamers would probably hesitate to buy it knowing that it probably won't be supported anymore.

It's hard to say, as I said it is just a theory, and it definitely gets the system attention it may not have already had, and as they say there is no such thing as bad publicity/attention where business is concerned, who knows, it wouldn't surprise me though, and the casuals should be more than happy with 20 arcade games, NINJA MASTERS and 15 more games via the MEGA PACK, not to mention all the other stuff you can do.

OK, I've kind of avoided this thread, but I guess it's time to add my two cents:
I don't think this is some kind of move to garner attention to the NGX to improve sales. I do not believe this is some ploy by SNK to clear the way for a new console either. But I cannot believe this is because of an unlicensed joystick either, it's been on sale for over a year - they MUST have signed off on it originally. It is illogical for them to sign off on the console-dock which has two gamepad ports only to intend that people should never actually use it.
As much as I love SNK and the NeoGeo, the company is not what it was 20 years ago. I believe they are grossly mismanaged and are not able to sustain support for anything nowadays. Then again, with the pathetic bleating of some so-called NeoGeo fans, I'm surprised they haven't just called it a day, wound the business up and gone home.
OK, I didn't own an AES or MVS back in the day, but I loved my NGPC and I think I'm going to love my NGX (only a week to go before I get mine!) but to ME, SNK have proved again and again they don't have the staying power to commit to and support their hardware for long. It's a shame, but it wouldn't be the first time I've witnessed a company literally driving themselves into the ground - for no apparent or logical reason.
It would appear in the wording of Tommo's latest press release that there are provisions in the contract with SNK to deal with disputes (there usually is) but SNK seem to have completely ignored Tommo's requests and instead, appealed to Tommo's clients directly to cease stocking the products.
I quote: "SNK has both failed and refused to use a single contractual remedy to resolve whatever differences exist in this matter, refused our numerous requests to discuss any issues at hand and refuses to consider any good faith proposals we have put forth"
This seems that SNK are not adhering to the contract, failing to use any (implying one or more) contractual remedies and is refusing outright to discuss the matter at all with Tommo - despite ANY concessions (maybe dropping the single gamepad product) they have suggested.
With SNK failing to provide any decent clarification for it's (yes - SNK's) NeoGeoX users or it's licensed manufacturer, they ARE being obstructive in this matter and don't give a stuff about their customers.
This leaves Tommo and ALL OF US in a grey area now, thankyou very f***ing much SNK! I see the future of the NGX being a community effort now, but at least we have that as a possibility. The poor NGPC didn't even have that to look forward to.

You make a good point, especially concerning the arcade stick. Personally, I don't think it's a publicity stunt. If it is, then I think it's a pretty bad one.

Well from a business point of view. I purchased the arcade stick on release date. So it was defo agreed. Why a year down the line say its an illegal product. Seem like a cop out and dodgy business practices.
Also business folk in china and japan tend to be hard core like SNK and they just do as they please as far as contracts go. (Some do)?

Don't think it's a publicity stunt either. To be honest all of this shenanigans was happening just as I got interested in the X, and far from it making me want one even more, it almost turned me off buying the thing because I could see support dissapearing completely in the near future. With Tommo taking such an aggressive and outspoken stance though, maybe all is not lost,

I think what happened with the joystick was that it slipped by them that the joystick would just "work" on the PS3. Then when SNK found out that the same joystick that Tommo was selling for the NGX also worked for the PS3 (anyone check the PS4 yet?) they realized that they lost an opportunity to release a Neo-Geo style stick for the PS3.
