I think Tommo have washed there hands of the system as all the Neo Geo X emails have been shut down for a while . So I emailed Tommo (2 weeks ago) asking them to email me the 500a firmware so I could update my system.
…………………………………………………..
Hi My name is ……. & Im based in the UK.
I have a Neo Geo X (great piece of re worked classic console BTW) & I'm after the latest version of its firmware (500a).
I would really appreciate it if you could email me or direct me to a link were I could download this firmware so I can finally make the picture on my NGX look the way you guy intended on my Pal Tv.
I would also like to say thank you in advance for reading this & I look forward to receiving your reply.
…………………………………………………..
This was Tommo's response, Thank you for contacting us! I have provided a link to an instructional video, informing you on how to update your firmware. I hope this answers all of your questions!
Best Regards,
Tommo Customer Support …………………………………………………..
I replied with this,
Thanks for the link but I actually need the 500a firmware can you please send me the firmware so I can patch it to my Neo Geo X thanks …………………………………………………..
Tommo's responded with,
Our warranties are only valid in the US. Unfortunately, because you are located outside of the US, we are unable to give you further support. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you continue to support Neo Geo X.
Best Regards,
Neo Geo X Customer Support
…………………………………………………..
I then replied with this,
Hi there please correct me if I'm wrong but is this not the customer support for Tommo & are you not the designers & manufactures of the Neo Geo X system?
If the answers YES then I'm not quite sure why your referring to the warranty as this isn't a warranty disputes or issue, I am only asking for the updated 500a firmware for the Neo Geo X system your company has manufactured.
Also taking into account the fact that the official Neo Geo X website email address are now no longer responsive & inactive has lead me to contact you directly.
Also as I am based in the UK does your company believe I'm any less then a valued customer & my money not as good as if I was a customer from the United States?
I feel that regardless of were I am located or situated in the world that your company could show me as a valued customer some sigh of good faith (like any other reputable company would do in a situation like this) by acknowledge & dealing with my request for you to send me what I have so reasonably asked for, so that I can upgrade my Neo Geo X to the latest 500a firmware.
Thank you for reading this & I look forward to your response Regards
…………………………………………………..
This was Tommo's last response, Your satisfaction is very important to us.. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience, but there is nothing we can do. Please contact your retailer for a exchange or refund of your product. I am sorry I could not have been of any assistance.
Best Regards,
Neo Geo X Customer Support
…………………………………………………..
I know what I make of their responses, but what do you guys think?

Hooray! If only it had been updated with some new software or firmware in time for Xmas.
Nighttrate - the responses don't surprise me. In fairness, would Microsoft email you a file containing an xbox 360 update?

Hooray! If only it had been updated with some new software or firmware in time for Xmas. Nighttrate - the responses don't surprise me. In fairness, would Microsoft email you a file containing an xbox 360 update? Whenever theres a free update or firmware available from Microsoft you can email them & they will send you a link or point you in the right direction of were on the web it is located, especially if its to fix to major bugs or addresses know issues, It not just Microsoft other companies E.G: Apple, Samsung, Pioneer, Sony among other will do the same. As for Tommo I could understand if it was a PAID update or it adds optional extras, but it isn't & it was actually made to address issues with the console that needed urgent attention & fixing. Also it isn't available online for download so I feel that my request was more then respectful & reasonable. Im my opinion they were just being unhelpful due to that fact their contract is finally up with SNK Playmore also fanatical the system hasn't been the runaway success it could of been due to the unfairly poor review from Pro Reviews, bloggers, NEO GEO extremist & purest topped with a "Cease & Desist" Id say that they have washed there hands of the system due to the bitter taste it may have left in there mouth. For them to withhold a Free Firmware updated that was meant to be a real fix for the system just goes to show what type of company TOMMO are.

The firmware update was never free. You had to get either the Mega Pack or one of the Classics volumes to get the update.

I beg to differ there, the games & the hardware were what we were paying for or they wouldn't have been different prices points on the games.
If the firmware was ment to be paid option then why wasn't there that option ever talked about on there sites or why wasn't We pointed to a pay for upgrade & download option
In my opinion all The firmwares to date were included as FREE upgraded to address operating issues with the NGX & they changed / upgraded the firmware as & when they made improvements
I can't speck for the rest of the world but in the UK all you had to do is send your NGX to funstock & they did the upgrade for £00.01 aka 1p, this was booking in via there website, they only put a small costing on there site so it could be added to the cart I believe (but don't quote me)
Also seeing as 1. I've have a few emails from Tommo that have never once said "you must pay for the firmware updates" 2. They are no long supporting the NGX, manufacturing it or any of the game packs any more 3. The NGX & game packs are (mostly) sold out worldwide with no chance of replenishment
With all that being said my point is why would they have a problem with sending out the firmware update?
That for me is the puzzling part.

Nightrate,
You make so interesting points.
The short answer is probably that 1) Tommo no longer care about this product which they are no longer supporting 2) The individual that you are dealing with is not te right person and probably doesn't fully understand the request,or else doesn't want to refer this up the line (probably a long way outside of their job description guidelines.
Still doesn't make it any less frustrating :-(
