Yep - that is the exact same as my unit. I can't send it back though as it was a gumtree job. Gutted. Will crack it open reluctantly. Anyone know the battery type so I can get one?

Hi, if you open the unit up, please post here what's happened to the battery.. take a photo. This is interesting as I wonder if Tommo got a faulty batch of batteries or if the units themselves that's causing the problem (possibly due to manufacturing errors). Guess we'll never know. Either way - quality and/or quality control seems to be an issue with the NGX. Batteries expanding is a pretty serious (and potential very dangerous) issue.

Mentioned the issue on Facebook page - comment was swiftly removed. Nice customer support.

Must be a dodgy batch of batteries. The units seem pretty solid to me.

Opened her up this morning, the battery is well swollen, and I think I can see a little leakage, luckily retained within the battery casing. The thing thats worrying me now is, the battery is hot-glued into the X. I'm not sure how I would safely remove it to replace it

Nice one, managed to remove the battery with a fair amount of force and have removed any residue of the glue. You'll be pleased to hear that as soon as the unit was opened, the back of the X returned to it's usual flat self with no memory of the pressure it had been under. I've now screwed it back together and will look for the best battery I can get to fit. Anyone know if there are any prerequisites to bear in mind battery-wise? I know nothing of electronics.

So last night I finally got around to opening up my corrupted NGX unit - corrupted in that it always crashed/froze any ROM after about 2 mins of play.
I removed the first 5 screws with difficulty and at that point thought the screwdriver I was using was the incorrect size.
Anyway, I thought I'd turn it on to have a quick 2 minute look at some master system games I was thinking of getting off ebay - low and behold the NGX is now working fine again! Yes my firends, the greatest comeback since Lazurus. Thank goodness I never threw it away. I can't really explain why it is now working, but it is.
Thanks to everyone who posted encouragement/advice against my historic posts. Fingers crossed that the 'fix' lasts. I have now put the screws back and still no problem. However this bad boy will not be leaving the docking station from now on to ensure it stays safe and sound.
On another note, I also tried hooking it up to the tv. Wow. I mean what an improvement. I don't know who at tommo had the idea of selling it with an HDMI cable, but it looks so much nice with AV. If you have not tried it I strongly encourage you too as it makes the worlld of difference.

Now run that badboy through a VCR for a greatly improved picture!

If you want a greatly improved picture get a xrgb-mini. It even help make the screen tearing less noticeable. When I got mine I've never looked back(playing on a crt).
