This game is awesome! (I finally started playing my NGX, btw! That's why I haven't been posting ;-) )
Anyone have any gameplay tips? I keep getting my butt kicked by the CPU.
Pitching: - I realize that you can adjust the ball curve after having thrown the ball. Can you also adjust the speed after release? I have had decent success throwing down the inside line of the plate, closest to the player.
Fielding: - Do you use Easy or Expert mode? What is the best way to field, considering that you can't see where your outfielder is as the ball is hit? - Sometimes I think the person closer to the ball is going to get it and then I realize that I'm controlling another player. Ideas?
Batting: - I suck.
Other Options: - What's the power up? What's the Pinch Hit strategy?

I've come close to winning a game, but it was flagrantly cheated from me in the last inning. I was less than pleased with it! Still, first Baseball game since Base Wars I actually completed a whole 9 innings of!

I used to play this really great Turbo-Grafx 16 game, World Class Baseball
BS2 (ha ha, BS) is far superior EXCEPT that WCB has an overview of where your outfielders are, so you can get ready to catch a pop fly. I don't know if these games are tough, or I'm just no good at sports games.

I won one game! 8 to 6 in 11 innings! The pitching was G A R B A G E in the last 3 innings.

I use auto fielding. It makes fielding soooo much easier. On manual, I can never seem to position my fielders correctly :/ . I love the game, but I wish the pitchers could last more than 3 or 4 innings before they become so tired that their pitching becomes horrid. I actually played a full game on Sunday night and won 4-3!!

Move your batter all the way down in the batter's box. That'll give you a little more time to see the pitch and decide weather to swing or not. Also, try calling time out and using the power up option when you have men on base and/or when your power hitters are up. If you get a good hit, chances are you may hit a home run.

Moving the guy to the back immediately improved my batting average hahaha. Any tips on pitching?

As a matter of fact I do! Move your pitcher to the side of the mound according to his pitching hand. So a right handed pitcher you would move all the way to the right. Pitch " fast curveballs" twice. The batter won't hit them 90% of the time. Make your 3rd pitch a sinker, then repeat the "fast curveball". With some practice you can strike out or get the batters out easily. Try to get your pitcher to last at least 4 innings, as using this method will tire him out.

Baseball Stars 2 is my favorite! Besides the great tips already provided - it's a war of attrition. If you get hit by a pitch, hit A rapidly so you can charge the mound and punch the pitcher. This will tire him out and force the CPU to change pitchers. Rinse and repeat until they're down to their last pitcher. Usually the closer and gets tired quickly so pile on the runs when he does.

Definitely look for opportunities to take a HBP and then take out their pitcher as mentioned above. When they are down to their last pitcher who is gassed in the 6th, you can pile on some runs.
As for pitching, I pitch to contact a lot. Just press A and let it go 60mph right down the middle of the plate. First, this gives you an opportunity to improve your fielding skills, second you can keep your starting pitcher under 40 pitches into the 6th-8th inning. Yes you might give up a couple home runs, although if they can turn on a 110mph pitch that wears out your pitcher, they almost seem more likely to hit a home run than off of a much slower pitch. You might want to work around the clean up batter, but be careful, putting anyone on (especially if they are losing) makes the CPU Power Up the hitter, then you have to try to strike them out. You might be surprised at how much the CPU just grounds and pops out.
I played for a couple hours last night, won 4 games, lost 1. My goal is a perfect game by the starting pitcher only. I think it is doable with some luck. I went 7 innings in one game with the starter only giving up 1 hit. The deepest I've gotten with the starter was one out in the 9th and got into a jam with the game close and him gassed so he got the hook.

Oh yeah, not really hitting tips, but offensive tips. Once you can get a couple singles or even doubles/triples (learn where the ball can go in the park to stretch a hit and who your faster runners are) Now it is time to consider using some power ups. I always wait for at least two men on. I don't pinch hit anyone until after the 6th and because of my pitching strategy I won't pinch hit for the pitcher unless I'm planning on pulling him anyway (pinch hit for pitcher=making a pitching change when you go back on the field).
