Hmmm, this is interesting news. Personally, I just want to be able to have more Neo Geo games for my NGX. Hopefully this open-source firmware will be a reality.

Strange move from Tommo if true? Would breathe new life into the NGX corpse I guess but I'd still prefer a full set of mega packs tho.

Here it is translated: Following the press SNKP, Tommo confirmed that the company would continue marketing, manufacturing and X support until 2016. Left very upset by the Japanese company, the U.S. giant would filter OFF on the upcoming release of an open source firmware console. This is what emerges in a conversation guregu1977 member of our forum, Jonathan Wan, a senior at Tommo. The company distributor Neo Geo X is currently working on the firmware that would open the doors for independent projects: OS, games, emulators, loaders, applications and other independent productions or homebrew ... All this is of course to be taken with caution pending a possible formalization, you can respond to this article at this link: x-community.grafbb.com/t1225-nouveau-projet-chez-tommo

Hmmm.. this could honestly be the best possible outcome if they intend to keep supporting the platform! This way, they could make proper use of the other shoulder buttons if they have things like SNES emulators, or if they possibly get MAME going. Makes me wonder, though. Will this mean open, GOOD and flexible firmware? If it's open source, I'm inclined to think so. We'll have to wait and see!

The price hasn't gone up or down (on auction sites) and it seems that all retailers are still carrying everything.
