Do you think the Neo Geo purist would still complain about it? Like if the picture and sound quality was perfect and the controllers were built exactly like the AES controllers?

Probably. Although it would make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Some people just love to hate. Some of those fools on neo-geo.com for example.

Yeah, I agree. People would probably still complain how it's emulation and not really made by SNK themselves. But then again, the original SNK isn't around anymore, it's Playmore now.

With the updates, I'm perfectly happy with mine. Most of the hate is from NG fanboys, and with that viewpoint, there's no logic or reality that's going to satiate them. That's the definition of fanboy, and they sure live up to it. I just can't wait to get OMGSNK's ProCard/Jailbreak Micro SD and UltraCard!! In the end, it comes down to what makes you happy. Other people's opinions, in fact, are none of our business.

Completely agree. Let's be happy and confident with what we have - which is great.
Of course, no one is trying to say that the NGX is the same as the original. However it does offer a similar experience for a fraction of the cost. Not all of us have tens of thousands of pounds to pour into our hobby and passion.

I think the best example of this answer is the Retron 5. Tons of capability, takes a LOT of different kinds of original carts (something many have said they would have wished the dock of the NGX to be able to do) wonderful, clean and rich upscaling for HDMI sets, and has a pretty reasonable price, all in. But, it uses emulation, instead of hardware. So once again, you have a polarized audience. I know many who say it's perfect for their needs, and just as many, if not more that would rather RGB mod their original consoles, and buy XRGB Minis to upscale the original consoles for modern TVs. I guess it's down to what you're willing to define as the experience, or what you -need- to be able to enjoy the games. You wanna take the Retron route, nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with the modding and upscaler combo, either. As long as you're enjoying the games, who cares. Just play em.

As far as emulation is concerned, the Ouya does it for me. I've always said that it's a really nice machine for emulation. I even use the NGX stick with it when I pay Neo Geo games. Works great.

Neogenesis, how is the Ouya for playing MAME roms? That's one thing I hope the NGX gets emulated sometime soon. I really wanna run Tech Romancer and Rival Schools! Two of my fav's that I'd love to play again.

Two of my fav's that I'd love to play again. I use MAME on Ouya and it works quite well. Most of the games I like playing on MAME are beat 'em ups like Final Fight and X-Men. Street Fighter II was the game that got me into arcades, so I have a couple Street Fighter games as well. I haven't really tried any of the 3D arcade games like those you've mentioned as I'm more into 2D arcade games. I haven't played Tech Romancer before, though I am familiar with it. It might be a game I may ponder on getting for my Dreamcast.

Sorry to bust the bubble, but we wont be getting a Mame emulator anytime soon or in the future for the Neogeo X. There is just no point.

Does the Ouya run MAME emulation?

Yes, it has MAME free for download. I use MAME on Ouya like I mentioned above. I use my Ouya mainly for emulation- NES, SNES, Genesis, Neo Geo, and MAME in particular.

I plan on using my OMGNGX jailbroken NGX for his neo geo collection and if I get the Ouya, I'll have that one for MAMEs. For me, it's just totally rad to have the NGX for the whole retro experience of having a virtual AES in my game room. Having played the crap out of the AES back in my college dorm days, the look and feel and sound of the NGX stick and buttons is pretty much exactly like it felt and sounded on the old AES system, clicky sticks and all. It's like they took the case molding of the original controller for the NGX one. The hardware sounds and feels exactly the same. Even the weight of the controller is spot on. Plus, OMGNGX has the best customer service around. And, I can take the games with me on the handheld.

I really haven't gone to any particular Ouya forum, but this one seems to be a good place: www.ouyaforum.com/I'm glad I got an Ouya, and you can use the NGX stick with it as well, or all kinds of other USB/Bluetooth controllers. It's just a mater of finding what works best. I might get either a SNES or Sega Saturn style USB controller some time for my Ouya too.
