Hello,
I recently bought a Neo Geo X Gold pack, found out it's common to jailbreak them for Emulators/ROMs, & I have a couple questions.
1. Which firmware is the best suited for ROMs?
2. Is it even worth it to jailbreak?
3. Do ROMs have any frame lag issues or audio issues?
Appreciated

1. 337/370
2. No
3. Only on Jailbreak firmware

I haven't tried the jailbreak myself though I've heard that it has some issues, so I just stick to my v500. If you just want to play Neo Geo roms, you might just want to stay on the original firmware and get a modded SD card. You won't be able to save with the original firmware though.

1. 337/370 2. No 3. Only on Jailbreak firmware Okay okay omgngx, you seem like the wise ngx guru on here. 1. In your opinion; why do you believe it isn't worth it to jailbreak? 2. So then if I don't jailbreak, is my best bet is to go 500 firmware? (for the 50 games? and saving? etc.) 3. Or do I want a modded SD card? o.O I just want the best option for more games without any lag issues :[

v500 lets you save but you won't be able to use a modded SD card on it for 50 games. You'll have to stick with the original firmware (337/370) if you want to use a modded SD card for additional Neo Geo games. The downside with the original firmware is that you cannot save. I'll let others chime in about the jailbreak's issues since I don't have experience with that.

But doesn't firmware 337/370 has crunchy audio, poor hdmi picture quality, and controller input lag? Only thing the jailbreak firmware has is brief frame skipping and slowdowns.

I would rather have more games; than to be able to save IMO.
So those two are my only options? 370/500 ? I'm still not 100% understanding :[
and being jailbroken is for NES/SNES/GB/GBA/etc. ROMs? (but they have frame lag, audio issues?)

If you just want more games and don't mind not being able to save, I suggest that you stick with the original firmware (337/370) and get a modded SD card. You can put 50 Neo Geo games into one SD card.
If you opt to update to v500, you'll be stuck with the 20 built-in games and the 15 that come in the Mega Pack (plus the Ninja Masters game card). v500 does add some improvements such as better sound, improved HDMI output, etc.
You'll still be able to jailbreak your NGX if you decide to do any of those. Jailbreak does let you play other emulators (NES, SNES, Genesis, etc.), but it has some issues as mentioned before and it doesn't seem like it will be updated anymore.

Much appreciated 'neogenesis', very helpful.
Last question:
Is it most common to mod your own SD card? (so I can choose my own roms? idk)
Or do I just buy a recommended pre-modded one etc?

You can put any 50 Neo Geo games you want into a modded SD card. They come without any games, so you decide what to put in it. omgngx would know more about modded SD cards as he sells them.

I have just one problem that when I boot up the neo geo rom I am unable to add game credits. When I press select I get the 'quit menu' option and no other buttons will add a credit. So close and yet so far!! (I have converted the original rom into a .FBA file then renamed to .aes)
One of the earlier posts mentions that this issue exists but there doesn't seem to be a solution, any ideas??
Thanks in advance!

That button changed! On the jailbreak firmware, it's one of the shoulder buttons that is your new credit feeder. L2 I think.
