Metal Slug 2 is sluggish on OG Neo hardware. I have it on MVS. Choppiest and worst slowdown on any Neo game ever. That's why Metal Slug X was made. 500a emulation is best version so far hands down. You just lose the ability to play your own roms.

Ooooh no, no. It won't ever be a service, sorry. It will be a project if I can source a spare dock and a Raspberry Pi. I'll share all the info and pics I can for someone to copy but as a service it would be too costly and risky for me to do, plus I don't think there is a sustainable pool of surplus docks out there. Also I wouldn't have the time, in addition to all my projects (and I've got a lot), I'm doing a programming course this year and I'm a full time carer.

Yeah, you can only get docks (generally) by buying an entire NGX Gold Limited Edition bundle. This is something that anyone with enough experience (minimal soldering) could follow along and copy, we'll be posting pictures of the entire process along the way.

And remember, the idea of using a NGX dock as a case is just a *tempting idea*, because of the 1 to 1 ratio of ports on the Pi and dock sockets, but you don't NEED to use a dock. You could get a standard (or any other) Pi case, say in black or red and jazz it up a bit with SNK, Neo Geo or MVS logos which are easy to find as stickers all over the internet. You can even get cases with a VESA mount which will attach the back of a LCD screen so you will never even see it, so it's appearance becomes irrelevant.
If you setup the Pi using the RetroPie install script, you can select which emulators you want, i.e. just Neo Geo and setup your NGX arcade stick on first boot. You can then customise it further by making a Neo Geo themed PNG boot logo and copying it to the required location.
There are also companies which produce DIY arcade cabinets, I've had my eye on a bartop cabinet which comes flat packed. You buy the arcade stick and buttons, wire them up to the Pi (there are instructions out there already, people make Pi MAME cabinets all the time) and seat a cheap LCD screen in it. The same company has the parts to then finish the cabinet with MVS styled panels, optional lights etc.
There are many, many options to build your own system, in whatever form you wish, supporting as many emulators as you wish. It's a great time for retro gaming.

How about a PI built into the NGX joystick (like a true plug and play)?

Would there even be enough space in the stick housing to accommodate all of that?

Hey danthorI'm pretty sure I could fit my Ouya into the NGX joystick, but the problem is that it doesn't have enough buttons to work the android operating system. I'm not sure how big the Pi is, but I'm pretty it could fit. Sent from my XT894 using proboards

The PI is about the size of a credit card... no buttons like an android, you would just need the power and video out ports on the back of the joystick.
