I have never had a problem with updating and i use the mega packs and classic packs. I do reckon there are some dodgy megapacks about. for the jailbreak try it with a 2gb micro sdcard. Also try and get a classic pack.
I have just bought another Neogeo x, got a bargain for 74 GBP, all included. I am happy to offer any advice, please PM. I will help you to try and resolve the issue.

I picked up mine for $188 after sweet talking the chick there in the first of second week of Jan. (Yes from EB Games in Australia) Firmware of it is v370 and the Mega Pack 1 I bought from amazon wouldn't work updating the damn thing to v500. That renders that game card totally useless. Just picked up the NGX Tools online and at least that tells me "Game Card Fault" when I try to update it using the Rocket Cable V2.0 (and mega pack 1) instead of just booting the unit in an "I'll just charge the unit" way. Can honestly say that I wouldn't have bothered if I'd have known there was this issue before I bought it, but that's my own fault for not researching properly. At least i never pulled the screen protector off it so it still looks brand spanking new. After contacting Tommo and them telling me to send the unit with the Mega Pack to the UK (Funstock) for a small fee to get it fixed I checked that avenue out. 15 pounds for the fix. Didn't seem too bad until I went to checkout and they were going to charge me another 61.40 pounds for shipping. WTF?!? I'd be sending over in the Mega Pack box that didn't cost the US$100 in shipping to get to me from the US. As I'm providing all of the shipping packaging and paying for the shipping for it to get there in the first place all they have to do is fix it and put it back in the game box and send it back. Hardly worth spending another $140 Aussie dollars, after paying $188 for the unit and about $110 for the game pack. Queried the price with funstock and they said the price is what the price is. Bah what can you do. Getting raped so hard my ass is bleeding..... Guess if I hadn't gotten off track in the second paragraph I certainly have by now. /rant There are NGXs out there that have game card slot pins which do not make proper contact with (official) cards. The problem would be with the handheld itself and NOT the MegaPack. Tommo always had people return the actual handheld when an update could not be performed... another member here needed to return two before he got one which would not error to a "game card fault".

Just thought I'd send through an update on my Neo Geo X. On the 18th August last year I received an email from Funstock as a customer service feedback survey. I essentially let them have it. I had a reply within about an hour from Funstock wanting a chat and to see if something could be done. I then entered into negotiations and with the great news that Funstock had a new courier company with new pricing, we settled on £24.44 for the delivery, plus the upgrade cost. All up the fix was going to cost £39.44. I put my NeoGeo in the megapack box, with the mega pack and the rocket cable and sent it off to get this upgraded. I put this in the mail on the 6th November after paying through Paypal to get it sent off. (Yep that cost me more shipping). I then played the waiting game until this morning. I blanked out the name of the support person on the email. The fact that the handheld wouldn't accept the upgrade was the reason that I sent it off in the first place. 11 weeks later and I get told you're shipping my unit back to me essentially without doing anything. I hope it is still in the same condition I sent it to them.

You should have purchased the neogeo x from funstock originally. Then they would have swapped it. The problem is You need to send it back to the retailer you bought it from, EB games.
Funstock offer an upgrade service but If the neogeo hardware is faulty, its not their problem as you never purchased from them in the first place.
Funstock did the right thing in sending you it back.
I would be sending it back to EB games for a refund.

Wow, great price AUD88.
I picked mine up over Xmas for GBP100 which included one of the classic volumes (I already had a mega pack).
Bizarrely, since jailbreaking I'm spending more time playing on the pre-installed games. KOF 95 is a great games isn't it?
I do still find it odd why they would give World Heros Perfect installed and then select World Heros 2 Jet for the megapack. That slot would have been better used for Neo Geo Golf or a driving game to provide further variety.
That said, you can have it all and more once jailbroken.

I would be sending it back to EB games for a refund. Yes that would have been a great idea, but I'm guessing that you forgot about the shipping costs originally. Don't get me wrong I understand your point about regarding their responsibility, but I don't agree 100%. First off, this unit worked. I can play the games included with the Gold Pack with no problems. From a hardware perspective the unit works and I haven't had any correspondence to suggest otherwise. EB Games won't take the return because the unit works out of the box with everything the Gold Box contains. I have kept this unit in perfect condition, as you can see from the photo in the post above. I didn't even remove the screen protector sticker from it. My problem was that the Firmware required to play the Mega Pack wouldn't load using the Mega Pack and Rocket Cable. Secondly, TOMMO referred me to Funstock as an official repairer. Since when does an official repairer put repair work in the "too hard" basket? Maybe TOMMO got the precise wording incorrect in their emails, I don't know. From what I had been led to believe I could pay some money and get the firmware loaded onto the unit so I could play the Mega Pack. Funstock had no warnings on their site regarding the possible failure of their upgrade process. You say that it isn't their problem as the unit wasn't purchased from them, but I had PAID MONEY to them for this service. I haven't been trying to sponge a free warranty repair or anything from them. I had paid for a service and therefore entered into a contract for them to upgrade my unit. If I was looking for a response of "The unit won't accept the upgrade" I had already figured that one out for myself, and they knew that before offering to do it for me. There was also no mention of any sort of re-fund for services that weren't provided. While every step of this process has given me Rage, I haven't been rude or given Funstock any reason not to want to help me out. I just replied to the email saying I was disappointed. Funstock have since offered to replace my un-upgradable unit with an upgraded one, which I thanked them for and agreed to. I purchased the unit over a year ago now, and I have an upgraded unit heading my way. All is well that ends well. PS: I am a Video Game collector and I have been looking at Funstock's other products (as they send me their promotional specials) but I had written off purchasing anything from them. As a result of their Customer Service they have removed themselves from my "Not in a million years would I buy anything from them" list. It was a long process and not something I would want to repeat but i'm relieved that a solution has been found. Cheers, and sorry for the Necro of the old thread. - Lusky

After my original unit broke (which I had not purchased) from Funstock, I made sure I got my new unit from funstock - even though I paid a little extra for the privilege.
In my correspondence with them they have always been really helpful. Glad that your story worked out well.
